I used this laptop 3 times before getting the deadly blue screen. I thought it was initial to the set up but it happened a few times. I’ve carried on using it as everything seems okay. But my trust in the laptop isn’t 100%

But I’m past the day of return.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad at all
It early days as I only got this last week but I want it for my small business and for online meetings predominantly. My biggest peeve is that it is Microsoft dominant and either I pay for the Microsoft Licence or find another means of using my Microsoft docs. I did download a free programme yesterday via windows which looks promising so we will see. As I was more used to Google again I am stuck with Microsoft Edge as the default engine which cannot be changed. Maybe all of this is in the spec but it didn’t make much sense to mee. It has a large keyboard surface and backlight which I like and a large screen. The sound is a little light and tinny but as said its early days so we shall see.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Workhorse
I got this as i really needed 16gb of ram to be able to cope with my zoom meetings. I had 4gb before and it would crash all the time. I work at home as a therapist so i needed a laptop with great wifi, good memory and long batterylife. It ticked all the boxes in that regard.

The only thing that isnt great is the sound, its very low, for such an expensive laptop i was very surprised as it is terrible, but i bought the creative soundbar mini and that has made a lot of difference and it was recognised instantly.

The other thing that i find a tad difficult is the size of the keyboard. The left side shift key for example is stupidly small and i keep hitting the \ button instead which is driving me nuts.

The backlit keyboard is nice and it is touch sensitive so comes on when you press the keys. The fingerprint sensor works well but i do feel its in the wrong place and should be at the top right side of the keyboard as it was impossible to use my thumb for it and so used my 2 main fingers instead as you can add more than one finger.

I had to delete a lot of bloatware from this, macaffee, dropbox, office etc but it is lightning fast to boot up, mine takes about 20 seconds. The screen is bright and adaptive, and you can change any settings you like. I paid for office personal and it downloaded in seconds and integrated into my system instantly and so everything is backed up to one drive which is encrypted and so i will never lose my files which is an invaluable resource to have as you get 1tb of space.

The charger worries me as the pin adapter is very small and is a bit too close to the ethernet port for my liking and ive had to angle it away.

Wifi is very fast which is ironic as i bought this because of the ethernet port and i havent even had to plug the cable in at all.

Videos play well, screen is crisp and clear, however as i said before the sound is appalling so you will need additional speakers and i do feel that Acer should do some work in this regard and make them louder and less bassy and muffled.

Overall, i am happy with it, so its a 4/5 from me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Price and quality
Light weight for it’s physical size, good memory. Good length of use when battery is fully charged from the charger. Also have an Acer PC, both give me everything I require from a computer. Defintely recommend Acer.

5.0 out of 5 stars It’s an Acer Ergo it’s Great
Great Windows laptop, enough memory both working and hard drive (just about). Would’ve preferred a 2TB hard drive but that’s my only gripe.
Boots up quickly and does everything I want it too.
As I said, it’s an Acer, enough said!

1.0 out of 5 stars 2 laptops, 2 returned. Poor power socket and screen flexing
I have always used ACER a brand that I usually like and feel they provide value for money. On the whole when it was price I felt it was good value, but at its price at the time of writing of £699.99 there are better quality laptops out there. Yes, it does a reasonable job of handling everyday jobs but its quality of build I am not convinced about. Putting aside the reversal of the E and R keys which is well documented, the casing fills flimsy and flexs easily. The biggest problem is the power socket and jack which is not the usual size and small. After 6 months of use the jack would not stay in the socket and so charging the laptop was a little hit and miss. In my opinion this is a major flaw. I had to return the laptop and to Amazons credit it replaced the laptop very quickly and with no fuss.
UPDATE: I had another one of these laptops bought in July 23 and have just retruned it as the casing is coming away from the screen as it flexes. Returned and getting money back to but a different model/make. Really badly designed laptops

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Machine (?)
Date of purchase 5-12-22. This review has to do with the Acer Aspire 5 A515-47 15.6 inch Laptop – (AMD Ryzen 7 5825U, 16GB, 512GB SSD, Full HD Display, Windows 11, Iron) and not the older version. So first thing first and to answer a common question, yes, this model it comes with an illuminated keyboard.
Overall it seems to be a reliable machine capable of managing (relatively) demanding jobs with excel and Power BI.
I like that the memory and SSD are extendable, i don’t like the colour of the keyboard for the simple reason it is too glary and you can’t read the keys 🙂 Takes some time to get used to it but a minor thing in comparison with the overall performance.
    Update 22/4/23
I am starting to notice some abnormal behaviour – a couple of times i had a freezing screen as if the machine was running out of memory or something. This shouldn’t happen!
I hope a future update will resolve the issues. Let’s see…
    Update 14/2/24
The prob was an update from microsoft which was resolved once i updated the drivers directly from Ryzen. All good with the exception of poor performance of the built in mic. Almost no sound capture. Other than this The machine works as expected.

5.0 out of 5 stars With its 16 CPUs (plus the service CPU) at 2GHz it is blisteringly fast and a joy to use.
    To be clear: I bought:
Acer Aspire 5 A515-47 15.6 Inch Laptop – (AMD Ryzen 7 5825U, 16GB, 512GB SSD, Full HD Display, Windows 11, Iron) I mention this because there are eight different models on offer at the moment (Nov 23).

I have had it for 15 days now and I’m really pleased with it

Some reviewers have said that the keyboard is indistinct and hard to use. With the back lighting and in lowish ambient lighting I find that the keys are completely clear with the exception of the function keys. These are half height as you can see in my picture. These keys double as F1-F12 when the Fn key is pressed and as Sound/Brightness/Aeroplane mode/etc. controls when the Fn key is NOT pressed so they have two legends on them which are, therefore very small and a bit hard to see. I resolved this by sticking a strip of paper over the keys with larger legends. Not very pretty, as you can see in my picture, but it resolved the problem. There are indicator lights on the Caps Lock and the Mute Microphone keys which are good but there isn’t one on the Num Lock key which would have been much more useful than the Mute Microphone key. Hey-ho.

Another criticism I read was that the screen has “has washed out and dull colours“ …maybe this user had the brightness turned right down because I find that with the brightness up it’s a very good picture when viewed from straight in front of the screen. If you view it from around 45º (left or right) the brightness is noticeably lower but still quite adequate.

With its 16 CPUs (plus the service CPU) ticking over at 2GHz it is blisteringly fast and a joy to use.

I haven’t given a rating for battery life because, so far, I’ve had it plugged in all of the time so I don’t know.

Update: I unplugged the power yesterday and, with the brightness set to 50% and with fairly light usage, the battery went from 100% to 5% in 11 hours 7 minutes after which Windows hibernated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic purchase and 100% happy!
Bought in the Black Friday deals when dropped to £649.99.

I haven’t had a laptop for many years, just making do with a Micro PC as a media hub for the TV but this has got to be one of the best purchases i’ve made in a long time.

    – Battery life has been 5-6 hours on a full charge.
    – Very fast to boot up.
    – The keyboard is nice and responsive and lights up each time you press a key and stays lit for 30 seconds after the last key press.
    – Very fast from the SSD memory inside and is also expandable. I bought another 2TB M2 SSD to fit inside and works like a charm.
    – Comes with Norton Security Ultra built in and free for 30 days. Can purchase a subscription to continue protection or you can make do with the free version or other Antivirus software.
    – Comes with 1 years free 100GB storage to dropbox. Once the year has finished, your files will still be accessible and downloadable, however you won’t be able to add any NEW content to your dropbox folder once your bonus storage period has ended.
    – Wonderfully colourful and vibrant screen – Great for watching 4K video
    – I have been playing Runescape on this (I’m not an avid gamer, just a nostalgic one!) reliably everyday since purchase. Perfect performance on the highest graphical settings, no lag or issues. Those of you who play games which take a lot of power/memory, i cannot comment i’m afraid.
    – Speakers aren’t overly loud and are located on the underside of the laptop. So if placed on a mesh stand or a stand which allows access to the sides of the laptop, sound quality should not be impaired in any way.
    – Screen Brightness is fantastic and on the highest setting is incredibly bright. I find even 50% is more than enough and of course, will extend the battery life even more.

All in all, a very great windows 11 laptop that will likely last for many years and i couldn’t be happier!
