It is a fast device and good screen quality but turned out that kids are not using as easy. Also it quickly got a screen mark after kids put some pressure on the back of the screen – i know it is not made for heavy duty but i would expect screen would be better protected.

Never considered a Chromebook before. In fact, didn’t even know what they really were until a month ago. Needed a cheap laptop and research made me realise that most of what I needed would be served by Chromeos. Am very impressed so far. Screen is great, it zips along & is really responsive, the keyboard is excellent to type on. Even the trackpad is good enough. Sure, it feels a bit cheap and creaky in places but for the price, no complaints. I thought I’d miss the windows set up I was so used to, and it is a bit odd not having a desktop but am surprised how quickly I’ve got used to it. Plus support until 2032. Very happy so far.

from the moment of first turning on my chromebook I was greeted with constantly repeating screen error, an artifacting of any moving image in the screen appearing as an interlaced ghost of the image frozen for maybe half a second, this then repeats every 3 or so seconds.
By the time amazon delivered the chrome book all technical help lines were closed so I will need to wait over the weekend to even speak to someone that maybe able to help.
Update – Replacement Laptop received is totally bricked, will not turn on, cannot get to recovery mode. Do not buy!!!!!!!!

The media could not be loaded. Bought this for my daughter to use in the public library rather than using our larger and more expensive HP laptop. For under £250 this is a great buy as she needs it’s for her online Google class work so no need for heavy computing power. Very responsive as you can see from the video. No lag whatsoever. She likes it better than her school Chromebook. Set up was very easy compared to a Windows laptop. Just login with your Google account and off you go.

OK, its not Windows – its Chrome OS , but the big thing is that its compatible with my Samsung phone – so I get calendar synchronisation , documents available on my phone at the same time and its run through my Google account
Start up is seconds , literally and you can drive everything through the browser. Certainly , their office suite works really well – everything autosaved online and if you need to share a file for example you can just select the appropriate MS format from a drop down menu
That’s a good point in that you don;t have stuff on your device – so if it gets stolen or fails you can just signin to Google and away you go again ..
What I also like is that Android apps run on it – so I can be watching Netflix on TV, phone or laptop and its all synchronised – as is iPlayer ..
Security is easier as well – its all handled from the main Google server, NOT on the device, so its always up to date – important these days
OS updates are usually very quick and regular and the device does look very slick as well (for the fashion conscious ) – I really like the fold back screen so you can prop it up free standing to watch on the 14 in screen
The power draw compared to my earlier laptop is a lot less – and the expected lifetime of the device is 8 years – all pluses for the sustainability.

My husband has had a chromebook for nearly 10 years and it’s still going strong so decided to get this, as it has a backlit keyboard and everything I wanted to use a laptop for. Great price and performs well. Looks lovely too. Highly recommend

4.0 out of 5 stars Only one negative for the Pixelbook’s slightly chunky lovechild
This device is pretty awesome. I, like most people who used it as their daily driver, loved my original Pixelbook; this device really reminds me of it and that is a good thing. It is not as thin, but with its thickness you get a set of really useful ports, so I think the trade-off is worth it. The screen is gorgeous; I don’t really understand screen resolutions as this one is just HD+, but it is significantly better than some 2K screens I have seen. The speakers are really good, good enough that I have not bothered to pair my Bose headphones with it yet. The keyboard has a really good typing experience but, and this is the negative I reference in the heading, the RGB backlighting is badly implemented; in good light it can stop you being able to see the keys. The trackpad isn’t huge, but it is wide and responsive and really gets the job done. I really wanted the 16GB RAM version but got the 8GB as it was all that was available; any worries I had about performance were misplaced though, it is plenty fast enough. After years of trying to fill the void left when I sold my Pixelbook on eBay, I finally think I’ve found the device I’ve been looking for.
Why a high-end Chromebook? Modern Chrome OS let’s people like me (data scientists) get a Linux laptop without any annoying setup. My Chrome OS Linux setup is super easy to backup and restore as these are options within the system settings. So, getting this new laptop, it took me less than 35 minutes to be up and ready and productive with all my Linux Apps installed and exactly as I left them. That’s awesome.

it does it very well. It has active heating dissipation therefore it might become a bit warm if used for long placed on laptop but that is not excessive. This likely impacts the battery life, which I was hoping to be a bit longer but that’s not bad anyway, it’s a Chromebook afterall. Being a Chromebook also means there are some differences to the usual standard operations: there is no del key, only backspace to cancel, and on this one double tap on the touchpad does not allow to drag, but it is required to keep pressing the touchpad when selecting word of dragging a map or a window on the screen. The keyboard is very good, as well as the screen and the overall building quality. It has a very convenient and easy way to communicate with an android phone, which also allows to get internet connection without entering the tethering settings every time. Weight is excellent as well as responsiveness, it is very quick to respond to inputs and to load webpages. At this price it is easy to recommend this Chromebook.

UPDATE: Yes, this is a very good chromebook … but after using it a little longer I have changed from 5 to 4 stars. Why? I mentioned the CB gets very hot … but I bought a cooling pad that works very well. Good as it is …. it is very inconvenient to use with my CB on my lap (which I prefer). None of my other CBs (either high end or cheap) overheated. I have reduced the number of tabs I have open, and this has helped a little – but I am used to having multiple tabs open normally – without any problems.
Several other things have annoyed me. I cannot login using my PIN, and the Dark Mode I prefer to use has changed the top bars etc. to a dirty brown colour. I have contacted Google, but (as usual) they were unable to help. I believe this is probably a flaw with Google Plus … but it cannot seem to be rectified. A small problem … but quite annoying.
Another thing is the battery life. I thought it was good to begin with …. but now I only manage about 6 hours or less before it needs charging. Charging is quick though.
No CB is perfect …. and for the price this is still a very good machine.

I love chromebooks … and have had quite a few over the years. The last one I had (a Samsung) reached the end of its life …. but I have kept it as a backup.
PROS … Fast (well they all are at the beginning), efficient, and well built. The battery life is good and it re-charges quickly. I really like the keyboard for typing and it is backlit which is a bonus. Smooth touch pad. Good screen quality and the sound is better than my Samsung.
It was very reasonably priced. I have learned that you don’t need to spend a fortune – since they all wear out in about 4-5 years anyway – however much you have spent…. but do check the end-time date before you buy.
CONS … a depressing dark grey colour / quite heavy (metal) / gets quite hot (but I really push it to the limit) … so I have just ordered a cooling pad as I like to use mine on my lap.
OVERALL, a nice little chromebook. I don’t think you will find anything better at this price … so I can certainly recommend it.
