dead on arrival and missing parts
Asus M16 is shipping this laptops with a backpack, mouse, 240w charger and 100w USB-c Charger. This one was missing the backpak, mouse and 100w USC-C charger. Also came dead; not charging and not switching on. Amazon doesn’t cover the return so I need to pay the shipping back to UK and wait for the return.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16

My primary requirement was a good gaming laptop, which isn’t heavy and not a pain for carry-on luggage on the plane/travelling. The laptop is quite light (about 2kg) for a good gaming laptop, despite its 16-inch monitor it’s not massive, so it’s easy to carry.
-Webcam and microphone are ok, not great, but not horrible either.
-Played Forza 4 on Ultra and Guardians of the Galaxy. Very smooth and looks good. (GeForce RTX 3060 video card).
-No lag on Bluetooth audio. Wi-fi is stable and fast.
-The heat and sound coming from the vents are both hot and loud, but not as hot nor loud as I was expecting from reading other online reviews. I can still hear what’s going on. Quite a relief as I was expecting it to be horrible.
(Note: I have the laptop on a table, with good ventilation around it)
-The sound/speakers are quite good for a laptop. It won’t replace an external speaker but it’s good.
-There isn’t a print screen button on the keyboard, but I’ve installed lightshot, so I use that instead.
-The screen is very good and bright.
-This model does come with a MUX switch (2022 version), I have it plugged in so use the armoury suite to ensure it’s on. I only use the laptop when plugged in.
-Comes with Windows 11, no bloatware, except for the normal windows default.
-Keyboard is nice to type on. The trackpad is big and smooth (I think it may be glass)
Note: I did look at the smaller sizes Zephyrus ie. 14, and 15, however, the weight wasn’t that much of a difference, the heat levels were better on the 16 and seems that I could get a better spec for the same or cheaper price.
It’s a good laptop overall, a great one if you want a gaming light, portable laptop.

So this has been my first ever gaming laptop, and I needed something for both work and fun. I didn’t want to spend a fortune, don’t get me wrong, it is still really expensive, but it’s not that extreme for what you’re getting (especially with GPU’s so hard to get hold of currently). It slotted into that middle ground between a workstation for editing and gaming nicely and if you’re a gamer looking at this laptop deciding whether to go for it, in my experience it just works. Everything loads, no errors, very stable. I’ve owned DELL XPS’s before and I was always on edge that they were going to crash at any time, but with this laptop I can change settings and not worry about it throwing errors out. It feels really well put together.
The games I’ve tried so far are Forza Horizon 5, Elden Ring and Doom Eternal, and they all fly. I get 60FPS in each of them at high or ultra settings after making some changes in the Nvidia Control Panel and The Armoury Crate (Asus’s control panel for all the graphics and lighting settings). Forza in particular looks stunning and runs beautifully as does Doom Eternal.
Please do some research into optimizing all the laptop and game settings online. as there’s loads of helpful advice on how to really maximise the gaming experience of this laptop by tweaking settings in the Nvidia Cotrol Panel and The Armoury Crate.
The screen is wonderful, so crisp and so bright, I really have no complaints, it’s perfect for me, and the sound too, although it won’t blow you away, is decent enough. The trackpad is huge and the keys have a wonderful tactile feel to them. The case is beautiful with all the connections you’ll ever need.
The only real downside for me is the fan noise. When you’re running a game under ultra settings in The Armoury Crate the fan does make a real noise. Although I have to say its not a horrible high pitched noise, I use headphones most of the time so I don’t hear it at all, but if you’re without headphones and the volume is down low you’ll have a job hearing the games over the fan noise. This is not a deal breaker for me though, the fact I can run modern games at 60fps without issue on a really stable platform using a beautifully designed laptop is more than good enough for me. I’ve been really happy with this purchase so far, sure, it doesn’t come with the absolute highest spec or greatest GPU, but everything just works brilliantly.
Finally, if you’re looking for a good sleeve for this, the 15″ Alienware Horizon sleeve from DELL is a perfect fit for it, oh and the XBOX Elite II controller works really well if using steam on this laptop.

I am really enjoying using my laptop I think the i7 is a good balance of power and battery life and heat management (probably a lot better of a balance than the i9 RTX3070 versions). Performance is fantastic for gaming and the screen is lovely. Pros: Perfomance, screen, compact and portable laptop and power brick which is amazing for the perfomance. OK: keyboard, webcam, speakers, battery life. Bad: fan noise too loud in tubro mode makes it impossible to hear the speakers properly so you will need headphone or switch it to performance mode which runs a bit hotter but the fan certainly slow down.

It’s a great laptop in theory, with top tier specs in a fairly compact chassis.
Good:
The build quality is excellent and I loved the Animatrix and Mini-LED screen. My screen did not exhibit any “buzzing noise” but this is a common complaint. The dimming algorithm however is really poor so ensure you switch to multi zone until you’re about to game otherwise it looks terrible.
Bad:
Gaming performance was much lower than I expected – this is likely due to poor liquid metal application from factory. I am not prepared to re-paste a laptop I just spent nearly 4 grand on. As a result my Timespy score was far lower than it ought to be and the barely any higher than the “G14 4080” I replaced it with.
Additionally there are issues with BIOS and nVidia drivers not giving you the full TDP of the GPU which again is not acceptable for this money.
Ultimately the performance you give up just isn’t worth it as is still isn’t the most portable machine out there. I would suggest either going smaller: Zephyrus G14 or equivalent – You’ll barely give up ANY performance,
or going bigger and getting a machine with a much better CPU and less throttled GPU.

I contacted Amazon before buying, they said the warranty was 2 years, then when the laptop arrived it is 1 year, then the return is not free and they don’t provide a label so I had to buy my own royal mail special delivery.
I tried to play Total War Warhammer 3, but it didn’t launch. 1500 GBP of wasted money, stress, and inconvenience,
UPDATE: the game issue was sorted when I googled and installed new drivers, but I would expect this to work without half-day troubleshooting
I thought it will have an aluminum case, but it is plastic. very sad.

I was looking for a powerful but lightweight Windows laptop mainly for video editing. This laptop fitted into my budget and requirements well with RTX 3060 and i7 12-Gen.The performance of the laptop was very impressive for me but at the same time one should note that its not a silent laptop when running at its full potentials. Intel i7 and RTX 3060 both are power hungry and ASUS provides 240W to support the performance. So before buying I would strongly suggest review this power wattage and its heat generation and don’t complain about fan noise or heating. I believe ASUS has decent level of CPU/GPU cooling but still a laptop with 240W power will be noisy and heated.
My second thought about video editing laptop would be: get a MacBook if you are into video editing as that will give you the same performance both on battery and AC, but this laptop (or any Windows laptop) will give you the potential performance only on AC power and that’s by design. Finally, of course MacBook is a costly affair and limited in many areas, so Windows always wins in that section.
Overall its a great power user laptop and I must say the screen, touchpad and the build quality is really good. You can control fan and performance mode which is big plus points for ASUS. Lastly the camera is 720p so, it will deliver as promised, don’t compare it with 1080p cameras.

I’ve had no issues so far and the performance is top notch and the screen is phenomenal, also no issues with noise despite it having 3 fans especially when on silent mode, use gHelper instead of armoury crate and you’ll get the most out of the computer. Very very good battery life for a gaming laptop make sure to use it on eco mode via gHelper as it’ll switch the display to be run off the igpu which will save a lot of power, you can use it as a productivity notebook on the go as it’s extremely light and portable. Yes the price is quite high but it you’re someone who travels often and make content then this is perfect for you.
