4.0 out of 5 stars FX707VI – Intel i7 13620H, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 – Sacrifices were made to bring the price down
I went for the FX707VI (Intel i7 13620H – NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070) model as I considered the spec good value for the price and it will run almost all demanding games just fine, but you should know that it comes with some compromises.

Understand that the screen had to be sacrificed to have the lower price tag. It’s a 144hz 1080p LCD with dull contrast and mediocre brightness. You’ll struggle to see it in direct sunshine and will get reduced viewing angles. Don’t consider using this for professional graphic applications as the colours aren’t correct, but they are acceptable for gaming. If you are docking to an external monitor then you don’t have to worry about it. An OLED display would add many hundreds to the price so I feel it’s a fair compromise.

The internal speakers are just terrible and mine has an issue with the right speaker resonating at certain frequencies and some voice pitches in videos, causing an annoying rattle. I fixed it with an EQ tweak to drop that frequency a bit, so fair warning if this happens to you. Chances are as a gamer like me you’ll be wearing a decent set of headphones and this has a 3.5mm headphone jack for latency free audio if you don’t like Bluetooth.

The keyboard is as you would expect for a laptop and has RGB backlights you can customise to each app or game.

The webcam is mediocre at 720p so won’t be great for use as a face cam while live streaming your game.

All ports are at the sides and none at the rear which will cause cable clutter. Left handed users will be especially annoyed that all except one port is on the left side where their mouse will go.

The laptop gets incredibly noisy and warm when gaming on the default settings, but you can tweak this with the fan profile function button or in the Armoury Crate software. Experienced users will want to tweak voltages down to drop the thermals.

Unfortunately there are some vents on the bottom so placing the laptop on a soft surface (duvet, blanket etc) isn’t a good idea, but easily mitigated with a food or bed tray.

Battery life is okay when doing light tasks and you can expect around six hours if you tweak the settings, but for gaming; 2 maybe 3 hours with a few tweaks tops depending on your settings.

This laptop does have upgrade options when your warranty runs out and it starts struggling with newer and larger games. It allows up to 64gb of ram by using 2x 32gb DDR5-5600 SODIMMs and the SSD hard drive is upgradeable too. They are not soldered to the motherboard like some laptop models and a competent person can do the upgrade with small Philips head screwdrivers. No obscure security screws to worry about.

In summary this laptop is good for the price, but as it’s large and heavy and has a few drawbacks you should be aware of that will need some tweaks to get the most out of it. It’s more suited to being moved to different desks around the house rather than being a portable gaming system away from a power socket for long periods.

With all that said though, it does suit my needs and budget and I knew the drawbacks before making my purchase, so I am happy with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Enough
Sitting beside my son’s Xbox Series S nobody would guess the laptop cost more than twice the Xbox when playing Fortnite so there’s a disappointment ontop of what is a good laptop for its price.

As often with laptops (had about six brand new including HP, Sony and Samsung) this one often struggles to sleep and awake properly, requiring forced restart. I can live with that.

It was playing Fortnite with my son, his Xbox beside my laptop, and the Asus laptop loads me the game 20 seconds later…the bus has flown off the map on one round and I loaded in Skydive, while the Xbox stayed consistently on-time, every round. Both running from the same Wi-fi and a brand new mid range router too.

Remembering my Sony i5 six years ago I have to say it feels similar in terms of multitasking, even faster loading with SSD though and graphics are better Ofcourse.

Software is great, for managing and monitoring performance, keyboard configuration etc I think the design is very cool, feels good to use, and I’d recommend the laptop as smaller games run fine, including on WiFi, plus LAN is recommended regardless for competitive games like Fortnite.

Asus can only grow with the balance of quality, design and value for money but they should sit their laptops beside multiple other devices, test and compare the genuine experience over many days. Especially their competitors laptops. It’s not enough to rely on specs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I needed
After years of slumming it with a laptop that could barely run games from the 90s without slowdown, I decided to get an upgrade. Seeing this model recommended in a lot of “best of” lists and it being at a much more reasonable price than its nearest competitors like Lenovo, I took the plunge and got one.

Glad I did. It’s a great-looking and performing machine. Solidly built and the screen is huge and clear. The 165Hz refresh rate is revolutionary to me. Keyboard is comfortable to use. I haven’t tried running any of the latest AAA games on it (not really my style tbh), but I’m playing slightly older games on the highest settings at a rock solid 165 frames per second and it feels amazing. Battery life is as good as all the reviews say. I’ve seen other reviews mention loud fan sounds as a downside, but I personally haven’t noticed anything that would be distracting.

If you’re after something with a bit of meat behind it without spending thousands on a bleeding-edge model, then I could happily recommend this one!

1.0 out of 5 stars Massively Disappointed
I bought this less than 2 months ago, and on the first day I had problems with the cursor disappearing, I’m a resident in a nursing home and luckily one of the nurses knew what to do by going into bios and restoring the cursor, all seemed ok for a few days then the laptop starting freezing every so often, the freezing seems to have stopped now but my cursor has disappeared yet again, the nurse has since left the nursing home I’m 64 and not at all up on computers and have no idea how he got the cursor back, I’ve looked on line about the problem but I’m too scared to attempt this in case I do more damage.

The ASUS TUF Gaming Advantage laptop is a standout choice for gamers looking for reliable performance without breaking the bank. Despite not being the most expensive or top-tier model in the market, it offers exceptional value. One of its most impressive features is the solid-state hard drive, which ensures speedy and efficient performance, crucial for gaming and multitasking.

Its build quality is robust, typical of the TUF series, making it a durable option for regular gamers. While it might not boast the highest specifications in its range, it strikes a perfect balance between cost and performance. The graphics and processing capabilities are more than sufficient for most modern games, providing a smooth gaming experience without any significant lag or issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Been 2 months I have it and I’m happy
Mainly using it for work but also eventual gaming purposes. All games that I’ve got so far everything on highest/ultra settings work perfectly. Keyboard is comfortable, however I use an external one as I also got a big monitor. When in game the noise can get high but it is not higher than other devices I had, at times even my Macbook was louder than this (and they are supposed to be not very noisy).

I think it was a great choice for me. So far 2 months in and it is working perfectly fine although I do not overclock it nor game on it 24/7.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gets hot but I really like it
The ASUS TUF Gaming FX507ZC4 15.6″ Full HD 144Hz Gaming Laptop is a solid choice for gamers looking for performance and reliability. The combination of an Intel i5-12500H processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card delivers smooth gameplay and fast rendering speeds, ensuring an enjoyable gaming experience.

The 15.6″ Full HD display with a 144Hz refresh rate provides crisp visuals and smooth motion, enhancing gaming immersion. Additionally, the 512GB PCIe SSD offers ample storage space for games and other media files, allowing for quick load times and smooth system performance.

One downside is the 8GB RAM, which may feel somewhat limiting for multitasking or running memory-intensive applications. However, this can be upgraded if needed to accommodate more demanding tasks.

Overall, the ASUS TUF Gaming FX507ZC4 offers great value for its price point, providing reliable performance and impressive gaming capabilities. It’s a solid choice for gamers on a budget who still want a powerful gaming laptop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for gaming
As the main headline says, this laptop will not disappoint you if you want to play any available game.

I have tried most of the latest and demanding games and all of them run really smoothly with all the graphic settings maxed out. I recommend setting the games to ”balanced” for DLSS as that will look 90-95% identical to the ”visual” option and it will offer much more frames. Generally, the components that this laptop has are doing a pretty good job giving the fact that the RTX4070 is not as strong as the desktop version. For a budget gaming laptop, you can’t ask for more.

Apart of the performance, I really have to praise the screen which is really crisp with vibrant colours. The QHD resolution (with 165Hz too) really makes a big difference and you will notice that in games.

The only negative aspect I have for this laptop is related to the audio quality which is still a mere average I would say. The quality has improved a bit from the previous versions of TUF laptops but not by far. And generally what I refer to is about the loudness of the speakers which was a main issue in the past. I recommend to not enable spatial sound so you can have the best experience.

For those interested in the build quality, in my opinion it looks the same as the previous versions of TUF. For sure do not expect the same build quality you have on a ROG Zephyrus but overall it feels pretty sturdy.
