5.0 out of 5 stars Very good value
This laptop arrived very promptly from Amazon and was easy to set up. Once that was done it starts very promptly and completes tasks quickly and efficiently. This was my first experience of Windows 11 and that was also a very smooth transition (once I had located the Power Off button in the middle of the screen and not bottom left as on Windows 10). All in all I have very positive first impressions and am very optimistic it will do all the Teams, Zoom, Word, Excel and Adobe work I need very adequately.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as my previous Asus
I had a ASUS VivoBook M513UA a few years ago and it was great, so I bought this one thinking it will be better, I was left disappointed.
The good points:
1.The screen is bigger, although not really in 16:9 ratio.
2. The SSD is 1 TB, difficult to find budget laptops with more than 512GB
The BAD points
1. Key board is lovely at night from the back lit LEDs, in the day time whats on the keyboard can hardly be read.
2. Slow CPU, its says 4.5GHz on this listing page, Windows system reports it is only 2 GHz
3.Slow Wifi, my previous Asus can do more than 200MB/s wifi on a 280 MB/s connection with Virgin, this one can only do 110 MB/s, I had to use a Asus A53 Wifi USB dongle to get more than 200 MB/s
4. There is no SD card reader slot, I had to use a SD card adaptor to read my SD cards .
5. There is no user guide, smalls things like adjusting the back lit brightness or change the F buttons I had to use my previous experience in order to adjust it, for a new Asus user, its impossible to find out.
6. The built in speakers are very tinny, only play the high end of frequencies.
I will try to contact ASUS for the wifi, will update this review.
Edit: Contacted Asus customer support and asked me to do a diagnosis using MyAsus, for wifi it reports no error but the router I am using is basically too old for the Wifi 6E wifi adaptor, I am using ASUS Wireless Router RT-N66U as my router which is 9 years old. I will have to keep on using the Asus A53 USB Wifi to get better speed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Faulty on arrival, returned
This is a nice looking laptop with all the features that I needed, good memory, excellent SSD, and a quality screen. However, the laptop itself got stuck in a boot loop during initialization caused me to enter my data about four times before finally getting so stuck that it wouldn’t progress. Even turning it on and off wouldn’t work. Eventually had no choice about to send it back and get a refund.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
It’s pretty amazing this laptop. It works seamlessly with a million tabs open.
The only issue I have is the battery life wouldn’t last all day, but then with everything i have open, i wouldn’t expect it to. I am home when I use it so it’s no bother to stick it on charge. I only mention it, because it could be an issue for someone else. When not in use though, in sleep mode, it last quite a long time.
Highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light and fast
I used to use a second-hand, large and rather unwieldy Dell laptop running on Windows 10. It was slow, especially when logging on, but it worked well enough. After the battery failed I decided I needed a new one. This Asus is much lighter (light enough to be portable) and, with Windows 11, much faster. It is also reasonably priced – good value for money.

As a student and freelance professional, finding the ideal laptop to meet both my academic and professional needs was paramount. After much research, I decided to invest in the ASUS Vivobook 16 M1603QA, and I am delighted to share my experience with this exceptional device.

Performance-wise, the Vivobook 16 exceeds expectations. Powered by an efficient AMD Ryzen processor, this laptop handles demanding tasks with ease, ensuring smooth performance and responsiveness even when running multiple applications simultaneously. Whether I’m compiling code, editing videos, or conducting research online, the Vivobook 16 never fails to deliver.
One of the standout features of this laptop is its portability. Despite its large display, the Vivobook 16 remains surprisingly lightweight and compact, making it perfect for on-the-go use. Overall, I couldn’t be happier with my purchase of the ASUS Vivobook 16 M1603QA laptop. 4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful laptop but the screen is extremely bad
Powerful, good battery, decent keyboard which should be back-lit in my opinion. The screen can only be viewed at a certain angle otherwise the colours will be very washed out. I came from an OLED 14 inch laptop from the same brand and thought that I had just grown used to the OLED beauty but I compared this screen to another non oled and it rang rings around this laptop. So if you’re buying this for media, I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re connecting it to an external monitor. The sound is decent and does the job. Fans don’t get too loud even when I played a light weight game. The laptop can’t be lifted with one hand for anybody wondering. I’m also not a fan of the colour of the keyboard it reminds me of one of those cream keyboards from the 90’s/early 2000’s especially because it’s not back-lit. For someone just looking to do office of college work, this laptop is excellent especially with the high end CPU. If you’re into gaming or watching stuff on it, I’d recommend looking at something with a better screen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great budget machine, watch out for the WiFi gotcha on Windows 11 reinstall
Lovely laptop for the money. Good extended height 16:10 1920×1200 anti-glare 60hz IPS screen. It has 300 nits brightness, but it’s not really colour accurate with only a 45% NTSC colour gamut. Not a big issue if you aren’t doing colour accurate work, but this where the savings have been made by Asus, along with the smaller 42WHrs, 3S1P, 3-cell Li-ion battery. Runtime is adequate if not gaming.
The keyboard has chiclet keys but it’s still comfortable to type on and has a number pad. The privacy cover on the webcam is neat.
The AMD Ryzen™ 5 5625U Mobile Processor 2.3GHz (6-core/12-thread, 16MB cache, up to 4.3 GHz max boost) has an integrated Radeon 7 vega graphics which is capable of 50fps in Fortnite and GTA 5. All this is powered by a 45w PSU.
Ports are:
1x USB 2.0 Type-A
1x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C support power delivery
2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
1x HDMI 1.4
1x 3.5mm Combo Audio Jack
1x DC-in
For £300 this is a great value productivity machine or light gaming machine. Recommended.

Some tips when replacing the SSD on this laptop. I built a windows 11 install USB image and booted up from this on the new blank SSD. Windows 11 setup could not find the WiFi, therefore couldn’t proceed beyond that screen.
The solution (also used for creating local accounts):
On the “Let’s connect you to a network” page, use the “Shift + F10” keyboard shortcut.
In Command Prompt, type the OOBEBYPASSNRO command to bypass network requirements on Windows 11 and press Enter.
The computer will restart automatically, and the out-of-box experience (OOBE) will start again.
Quick note: You will need to select the region and keyboard settings again to get to the network connection page.
Click the “I don’t have internet” option.
Click the “Continue with limited setup” option.
Create a local account username and password, rather than a Microsoft account.
Then when you install the drivers, you must use the mediatek drivers for both WiFi and Bluetooth, rather than the Realtek drivers. Your m1605ya can now connect to the WiFi!
