4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the money
I bought this as a secondary gaming device for when I’m away from home and don’t have access to my gaming PC. I’ve owned a Steam Deck but prefer a full blown laptop as alot of games I play are better with keyboard & mouse.
Build quality is solid and performance is decent for the money. My only complaints is the 256gb SSD isn’t big enough for more than 2-3 modern titles, needs 500gb bare minimum but personally will be upgrading to 1tb. While the 8gb RAM does the job it ideally needs 16gb. I understand they’ve tried to keep the cost down but any semi serious gamer is going to change these out. Seems a waste of the parts that come with it as I’m going to have to spend out a further £80 in upgraded to get it up to scratch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Happy daughter
Purchased this HP 15 Victus Ryzen 5600H for my teen and I must say after all the software was updated it seemed quick to boot up and the overall response has been acceptable. However, it remains to be seen if it is robust and lasts longer and it won’t die too soon. The previous purchase on Amazon (other brand & specs) died within 3 days after opening and now it has returned. Upon checking I found that this HP Victus warranty from the manufacturer is expiring soon but the Amazon warranty is 2 years thus peace of mind if anything happens within the timeframe.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent laptop with a couple of problems for gaming.
See Headline…
Got this on a Black Friday deal at a great price, it is a lovely entry level gaming laptop PC in just about every area with a couple of issues, 8 GB RAM is not enough for the latest games and this will need to be upgraded to 16 GB minimum really. Also be aware that the RTX3050 Graphics Card in this laptop is only 4GB VRAM and again that is not enough for quite a few of the latest games, older games run superbly on it but newer stuff is very much 50/50, as a general laptop it is brilliant however.
Oh, and don’t expect the battery to last long on gaming, again it is perfectly fine for general use but games will obliterate it in under a couple of hours so it is definitely best plugged in for gaming which I did expect anyway.
4 Stars without a RAM upgrade and be aware of the VRAM on the graphics card which cannot be changed as I have made a mistake with that to be honest.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful laptop. Awful quality. Awful software. Awful Company. Awful Support.
The laptop exterior is built very well, high quality on the keys, screen and chassis but unfortunately the quality ends there, one week into buying this laptop it started intermittently shutting off, black screen no power. Contacted amazon support about this and they claimed they couldn’t provide a replacement but could have it repaired but it would take a bit more than two weeks, this didn’t work for me as I needed it for work so Amazon suggested I take it somewhere locally and refunded me £130 to cover it which initially was good service, had the laptop serviced in a shop locally and the bloke said something about a ribbon cable?
Anyways, fast forward a month and everything is going great, that was until I did a windows update as per usual and HP support center (the preinstalled HP software) decided to UPDATE THE BIOS, WITHOUT WARNING OR CONSENT FROM ME, luckily the bios update occurring in the middle of the windows update didn’t brick the laptop as messing up a bios update can very easily brick the motherboard of a computer/laptop, however it did completely corrupt my windows install, losing me all of my work and personal files, I had to go home from work to pick up a USB stick and create windows installation media just so I could reinstall Windows.
Once I got back up and running I noticed that every week or so the laptop would bluescreen with the error code always relating to the BIOS, so that automatic bios update did actually mess up the laptop and it took me 7 more bluescreens and subsequent losses of work to finally decide to refund this piece of crap.
Amazon customer support had suddenly decided that despite my laptop being within the one year refund period and despite me having pictures of every time the laptop crashed that I wasn’t eligible for a refund, despite the last time I contacted them about the laptop it being offered to me as an option, I had to argue them up the wall and escalate this to a shift manager to get them to offer me a refund for the faulty product and the real stinger being they subtracted the £130 that I had to use to repair the first fault off the total of the laptop, I bought it on sale for £479.99 and after it all I am being refunded £349.99, I am now at a loss of £130 because this laptop didn’t work from the factory, but at this point I actually don’t care, I just want it gone and if I only get most of my money back I can settle for that.
I will never buy a laptop through Amazon again as their customer service has significantly deteriorated, they will try at every turn to stop you for getting your money back. If I had the energy for it I would have fought for the £130 back but it wasn’t worth my peace of mind.
Don’t buy from HP if you can avoid it, if you can’t, make sure the first thing you do is uninstall HP support center or disable the automatic bios update feature because that being enabled by default on a casual user-bases’ device is utter insanity and a disaster waiting to happen.
And I suppose the bigger lesson is be really really careful buying any kind of expensive electronics from Amazon because they won’t hesitate to turn tail and try to lie/cheat/steal you out of your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does everything I need well.
I bought this mainly for gaming, moving over from consoles. The difference is definitely noticeable. The two games I played on console, war thunder and Microsoft flight simulator work extremely well on this machine, I average 120-150fps on max for both games.
Other people have complained about fan noise, which to be fair they are loud but I wear headphones and it drowns the noise out.
If you want a fast laptop that works well you can’t do worse than this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the price
Ok so still early days but so far I really like this laptop. I bought it for gaming while away along with upgrading to a speedy machine. I’ve tried a few games and they play fine, it’s fast to start up. Although the HD could be bigger I’ll play games off USB HD, the fan is noisy as other reviews have stated but in the omen settings you can set it to quiet, apparently it limits GPU and CPU to compensate but I’ve not noticed anything major while playing. I’ve thing to note is make sure it’s plugged in while playing as I didn’t originally and the battery settings throttle the CPU making games stutter and all round unresponsive. You can change that in settings though. My main gripe so far would be battery life is poor but I mainly plug it in anyway. I was really on the fence on this but so far at least happy I purchased.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Lovely Budget Machine
Review for the HP Victus 15-fb0020na Ryzen 5 5600H Radeon RX 6500M 8GB RAM 256GB SSD:
I’m very impressed with the gaming performance of this laptop. Out of the box, it works well but with minimal upgrades it’s even better.
Firstly, it comes with a single stick of 8GB RAM, with a vacant slot. I added another 8GB so now also benefit from dual channel bandwidth.
Secondly, the SSD whilst fast, at 256GB is rather small capacity especially considering the size of modern games. I replaced it with a 500GB one. There is room for a second M.2 drive (see picture), but the manufacturer has neglected to solder the actual socket for it, so cannot be used. A bit pennypinching.
My replacement SSD already had Ubuntu MATE installed on it, along with games from a desktop computer. It worked straight away when I powered up the laptop, a real bonus.
The games I like are Skyrim Special Edition (ultra graphics, stayed at 60fps), Train Sim World 3 (ultra, 30-40fps on London Commuter) and Fallout 4 (ultra, mostly 144fps sometimes dipped to 80).
The screen is fine for my use case, only indoors anyway. LED backlighting for the keyboard is nice to have.
The fan makes itself heard when gaming, but that is preferable to overheating. Not a problem for me.
For the money, I am very pleased with this laptop indeed. My only gripe is that missing socket for a second SSD.
EDIT: A week or so in, things are all well. I’d like to mention one possible limitation to performance, which is the discrete graphics card has 4GB VRAM. Lots of newer games recommend 8GB. Although they will run, you may experience periodic frame rate drops. I found this with Train Sim World 3.
