4.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing battery life
I bought mine directly from Huawei. 16RAM/1Tb SSD. It performs pretty much as anticipated, which is fine. The screen is very heavy – if you pick it up with the screen open iit tends to fall fully back due to the weight. Whether this will become a problem remains to be see but it is ominous. The KB is identical to my previous 13″ Matebook and suffers an identical tendency to key repeats. Maybe it’s me…
But the battery life is extremely disappointing. It’s hard to put a figure on it but I’d be surprised if, with a few browser tabs open and YT running some of theime, if it would get 5 hours. That’s very poor IMHO.

5.0 out of 5 stars Initially nervous to buy without seeing it but very happy with purchase.
So like many people, I was initally nervous about spending over a grand on a laptop without getting to handle it at first but so far I’m very happy I tool the leap (the discount at the time helped with making a decision) and I thought I’d leave some first impressions after using the laptop for a little over a week:
It’s heavier than I expected but build quality seems to be pretty solid. Feels very robust and I particularly like that the hinge is approx 90% the length of the laptop rather than having two smaller hinges as this was a failure point on my previous laptop. This may be a design feature necessary due to the touch screen but either way, it’s reassuring.
Initial setup up was a bit of a pain as I had to restart the laptop a dozen times to get all of the updates to install. Not a huge problem as it was fully up to date the first night I had it but it did take approx 2 hours.
So far I’m loving the fingerprint scanner. This makes both starting up/unlocking the laptop and signing into accounts, etc super easy and quick.
Another thing I’m impressed with is how quiet the laptop is. My last laptop’s fan was very loud despite being SSD (I took it to a computer repair shop once where they said it was likely a manufacturing issue with that particular unit since the fan shouldn’t have been that loud). However, like my previous laptop, the bottom of the laptop does get very hot. I’m sure that having the cooling fans on the bottom is some unavoidable design feature but it irks me that you can’t use even a SSD laptop on your lap without microwaving your groin. This is solved by having a laptop tray (the one I use doesn’t even have cooling fans) as they made a very smart design choice by having two long rubber bars either side of the fans rather than having those four little stumpy rubber feet. This helps clear a good space for the cooling fans on the bottom by creating a channel to improve airflow.
Touch screen is also very new to me. Feels like you’re scrolling on a phone/tablet so it feels very intuitive to use.
No problems with screen resolution and has two sound bars either side of the keyboard so it looks and sounds great when playing things like videos.
Part of my learning curve revolves around my previous laptop top having keys like page up/down and Home/End which this one does not. Not sure why it doesn’t, perhaps it’s related to the touch screen, but these particular keys I’ve grown used to having and I happen to think they’re actually useful to have. I think this will most effect people who have a habit of using the keyboard over the mouse for certain tasks when working.
So far my only major gripes are the trackpad and the SSD setup.
The trackpad is way too sensitive even on the lowest setting. Just lightly touching it when you go to move the cursor can be enough to left/right click the mouse. Annoying but not a dealbreaker and perhaps this won’t be an issue once I learn to use the touchscreen more. It’s also bigger than the one on my last laptop so that either very useful or it gets in the way because you can easily touch it when typing, etc and because it’s overly sensitive for me means that the cursor can jump around the screen when you’re working. Again, not a dealbreaker but somewhat frustrating.
The unexpected thing that I discovered about the laptop is that it doesn’t have a 1TB SSD. It has a 199GB (C: Drive) + 731GB (D: Drive). As you can imagine, the C: Drive gets full very quickly so I had to transfer media files to D: Drive (default setting is that things get saved to C: Drive), i.e. had to transfer Videos folder from C: to D: Drive after I’d already spent a good hour or two downloading transferred files from my old laptop to the new one. Basically, you’ll have to use the C: Drive for things like programs and apps and use the D: Drive for general memory storage for things like vidoes/music. Not a huge problem but it bothers me that I can’t use download/transfer files and not worry about it – now I have to be careful to make sure it gets saved to the proper SSD.
Only other problems really extend from the differences between the older and this newer version of Windows (my last laptop couldn’t support an update to Windows 11) so you may also experience this. Again, this is more about my own learning curve in becoming familiar with the laptop.
Don’t really use things like the camera much so I can’t comment on things like that yet but I will update this review after using it for a couple of months or sooner if something crops up.
