My old laptop was purchased in 2003 and has served me well. Sadly it has been bypassed by continual upgrading of hardware and especially software. The final straw was when it would no longer log on to many websites as its operating system was out of date (that factor also prevented me from downloading Windows 10.)

This Lenovo machine arrived in as new condition and was quickly set up with MS Office and several other applications, all of which performed well.

It was interesting to compare the new laptop with its 2003 predecessor to see how technology has changed:
1 The old machine was a 17inch Toshiba which has a superb display, even by modern standards while the Lenovo is just 14inches. The most notable difference, therefore, is the overall weight – the Tosh is “luggable” nearly tearing your arm out of its socket to carry, while the Lenovo is delightfully light weight.
2 This machine uses SSD technology for all its storage so is inherently faster than the HDD drives of old.
3. Lenovo provide two pointing devices – a track pad similar to those found on many machines, plus “nipple” in the middle of the keyboard. This is essentially a joystick to move your cursor around the screen. Once positioned you can tap the track pad or the enter key to perform your desired action. Both systems tend to be slow to use and generally require two-handed operation. For personal preference, my first accessory purchase was a mouse.
4 This Lenovo machine was a fully refurbished model, and looked brand new. It was set up with Win 10 preinstalled and set to UK language setting. Sadly, the keyboard supplied on the machine supplied was a US layout so it was missing several important keys for UK usage – notably £ €, while the @ and # keys are repositioned from the UK layout. The problem is not insurmountable, but is inconvenient to UK users.
a. Change setting to American English so that software and keycaps line up. Access the UK symbols using the
Alt function or the MS Symbol map. Your dictionary will be American!
b Keep to UK English to let you produce the various symbols and load the UK dictionary. You will have to
memorise the positions of the UK symbols. Pictures of the two layouts are readily available on the internet.
c. It is possible to load both UK and US languages into the system so you can switch between them – this may be
useful if you are also using an external UK keyboard, for example if plugging into a docking station.
d. I used to work with an American company so this issue was common on our computers. We also noticed that
if we just used a currency symbol in front of a number, the Americans were so used to using dollars they often
assumed that was what was intended so we would abbreviate to UKPds or Eur to distinguish from US$.
e. A UK keyboard also has another feature – an AltGr (Alternative Graphics) key to the right of the space key.
Using this with with the vowel keys displays/prints the letters with an accent, e.g. AltGr E = é

When I went back and looked in detail at the product photos it was possible to see that a US keyboard was pictured but I was disappointed that this factor was not highlighted in the product description. It is an issue to be aware of if this is important to you.

This laptop is perfect for kids homework.
It’s great value for money and arrived really quickly.
My kids also love to watch crunchyroll on it which is great for when we go on holiday because they can download some shows and watch it whilst away so portability wise it’s great.
The battery life is OK. It comes with a power pack which will heat up if left plugged in for longer than necessary.
Performance is fine for what the kids need – homework, playing games and watching stuff. If they try to do too much at once it will slow down.
But overall for the price and quality you can’t go wrong.

Wow what a great little laptop for the price.. super fast and just like new. Using for stacking photos in Deep sky stacker and it real fast processing the data. It’s not a small thin laptop but it’s built to last. 2 hours runtime on battery and battery was still over half full so will do for me.. sound is good and loud… if your looking for a thin lightweight laptop then this is not for you. Bluetooth is a bonus and coming from a 17 inch to a 14 inch is no hassle as you get used to the size fast..to round up: great laptop, awesome price super fast and know the support will be there if I need it.
